The Ridge Theatre, located near the corner of 16th and Arbutus on the west side of the city, was built in 1950, when crying rooms were commonplace. That’s right. Crying rooms. It provided a soundproofed, glassed-in room for moviegoers with babies and small children. Now the theatre’s eight-seat kiddie cubbyhole is the last in the Lower Mainland, but still popular with parents as well as the occasional movie star: Katherine Hepburn has quietly taken advantage of the room’s privacy. The Deutsche Kinderschule Vancouver (DKV) Society has been founded to start the first German Preschool in Vancouver. Now, though, we are also considering making a German Cultural Centre, which would offer something for families and children up to the age of 18. Lending library, museum showcasing German contributions to Canadian Society, Playgroups, Preshcool, After-School Care, Auditorium, Teen Games Room, Playground & more…
In the meantime, some members of the DKV Society are running German Playgroups in Vancouver that you can attend with your littles ones… Try http://mitglied.lycos.de/vancouvergerman for more info.
The First Baptist Church downtown, offers a drop-in moms group on Thursday mornings for moms that feel comfortable in a church setting. There is an excellent low-cost childcare program to suit all youngsters up to age 5. One room just for babies, one for toddlers and one for Preschoolers. While the children play, the moms drink tea/coffee and indulge in some yummy snacks. Then, they break into groups to hear speakers, discuss issues relevant to parenting in todays world and get to know each other better. It is lots of fun.
Location is Nelson/Burrard. You enter right off of Burrard Street. There is parking, but you have to be careful not to park behind someone who needs to leave.

Melonhead is for kids only. No grown-ups allowed - unless
you’re pushing a stroller, of course. Think preschool
meets new school. Like a Happy Meal for your head. We
understand kids and will treat your little one with care.
For 20 dollars your Melonhead will get a cut that will
increase their playground cool. Mom and dad deserve a
recess too. Welcome to the scream zone, melonhead.ca.
Hands down some of my favorite products are from your clothing lines… Milkshaxs, Redfish and Shyness and Bloom. Very cute:)I will have to do some shopping when my baby comes!
I love the Raindrops rain hats! What a great idea, better than hoods that never seem to stay on active kids. I’m also eyeing the Milkshaxs bamboo shirt with the mountain bikers on it for a friend who’s expecting!
Really lovin’ the crochet work in the mary janes and the knit shawls.. Wish I had seen these when mine was tiny. Great baby gifts. Also, the mary jane rain boot and adorable rain hats. The superfly bibs look funky and durable all at once. The art and toy sections are outstanding.
I love the Milkshax line - my daughter was gifted two tanks of theirs and I love them!! Very stylish and versatile.
Keep up the great work Nicebaby - love getting my updates and newletters in my inbox!
